MANITOBA
2020 - INTAKE pROJECT
Although we haven’t yet been able to fully participate in a spay and neuter clinic with Manitoba Animal Alliance (MAA), our support of this part of their vision is something we know is very important and will always take part in. SOS will continue to be part of the trips up North to both Cross Lake First Nation and Norway House, which entails taking in unwanted strays and street dogs and helping with relieving community members of their personal dogs they can no longer support. This often means we are able to take in pregnant mothers, or mothers with young litters, and always do so with MAA before the harsh winter up north sets in as a natural weapon to these vulnerable dogs.
These intake projects involve 6-8 volunteers to drive up north 40 hours (one way!) with a cube van and follower van, both filled to the brim with the supplies we need, dog food and supplies to donate, as well as quite the collection of donations we bring in for the community. These intake dates happen just days before MAA has their volunteers meet up to host their Sterilization Clinic, as a way to allow them to fully focus on spay and neuter. In prior years, these clinics were slowed down by the amount of people coming in with dogs they needed support and attention for, so we are able to take that part of the responsibility off MAA which allows them put all their focus and energy into the productivity and seamlessness of the clinic.
