PENNY needs your support!

Penny is one of our last dogs in care from our Costa Rica Charter this summer. Of the 88 dogs that arrived, Penny’s journey to finding a home has been prolonged after requiring urgent veterinary care. After three separate leg surgeries (two here in Canada), she is finally well on her way to recovery. While in our care, her vetting has racked up quite the bill and we’re looking for donations to help support this sweet girl’s healing journey. So far, her vetting needs have totalled $7K. This number could continue to grow while in foster care, as she continues to require medication. Until we can find her a suitable furever home, we will be providing her with the best possible vetting & care, with all the financial costs that come along with that. If you are interested in helping support PENNY’s vetting needs, you can make a donation using the button below.

More from Penny’s Foster…

“The day I met PENNY, her love for human connection was immediately clear. As she bounced between me and my partner, excitedly kissing our faces and awkwardly nuzzling her head into us (i.e. smacking us with her cone) I almost forgot she was recovering from surgery.

You'd never guess from PENNY's happy-go-lucky attitude, but this pup has been having a pretty rough go. She doesn’t let it take any joy from her life, but she broke her leg back in Costa Rica and has put on a brave face through THREE surgeries to get that leg ready to play and run again (her fav things).

Since then, her schedule has revolved around recovery: Regular meds through the day. Not too much activity. Lots of rest. Each of these needs has come with its own challenges. If you’ve ever had to somehow get pills into a dog’s throat, then you know that struggle. Especially when you’re dealing with a mastermind like PENNY, who knows all the clever tricks to avoid swallowing.

But it’s reducing her activity that’s tricky — she’s a higher-energy dog and in an ideal world, would be getting multiple quality walks/hikes in a day, with playtime still to spare. And don’t even ask about getting this girl to rest — she’s not a fan of sitting still, especially if she has enough energy to climb a mountain, with nowhere to put all that energy. But she’s been a trooper through it all, and has come SUCH a long way with her healing.

We’ve worked our way up to some longer walks with no issues, and in return, she settles well in her crate for downtime. She and I have worked out her med schedule as a team — neither of us tries to outsmart the other, and she gets rewarded with her fav treat (hot dogs <3).

Although PENNY is finally on track toward becoming herself again, it has come at a cost. (And by that we mean, *cha-ching*) So far, her vetting needs have totaled $7K. Only the best for this high-maintenance princess, right? The vetting team here in Canada has put so much care and compassion into PENNY’s recovery, and for that we are so grateful.

But we need help covering these costs. If interested, you can make a donation using the button below.”
